The Hotel Concord Featured in the Concord Monitor
A recent article in the Concord Monitor provides insight into the regions newest boutique hotel, The Hotel Concord.Crowds of people walk up and down Main Street in Concord during lunch time. A stream of people walk in and out of the gold-domed New Hampshire State House heading to or from lunch at one of many restaurants including the Concord Food Co-op, Live Juice and The Works Café. Sue O'Donnell takes in this bird's eye view from four stories up in the lobby of The Hotel Concord.
This view is a rare one. “This hotel is different than any other hotel,” said O’Donnell, the manager. For now, O'Donnell is one of the people with this view and now that the hotel is open everyone can enjoy the view.
The Hotel Concord is located in Capital Commons on Main Street. The independent, upscale hotel is hoping to attract tourists, parents of nearby St. Paul’s School students and business travelers working with organizations like Concord Hospital, UNH School of Law and Lincoln Financial, O’Donnell said. The hotel has 38 rooms that overlook downtown from the fourth and sixth floors of the buildings.

Michael Simchik, owner of Capital Commons, said he thinks the uniqueness of The Hotel Concord will add to the vibrancy of the downtown revitalization of recent years that has brought a slew of locally-owned and diverse businesses. The hotel, he said, will be equally diverse. Unlike brand-name hotels with identical rooms, rooms in The Hotel Concord are all unique. On the fourth floor, there are 14 king rooms and 6 double queen rooms. Some of the rooms also have sofa beds, and four of the units are adjoining to accommodate larger groups, O'Donnell said. The building also has a large fitness center and three meeting rooms.O’Donnell worked at The Centennial Hotel in Concord for eight years and knows that The Hotel Concord will be able to compete with upscale hotels in the region. The rooms are sound-proofed, spacious and have lots of natural light, according to O’Donnell. Guests get a continental breakfast every morning and can access O Steaks & Seafood and Red River Theatres without leaving the building. Parking is available in the attached covered garage on nearby Storrs Street.
O’Donnell said The Hotel Concord’s lobby, which is located on the first floor, is open to the public and guests alike. "We welcome all visitors," she said. “If people want to come in and sit and read a book, they’re welcome to do that.”
Prices at The Hotel Concord vary based on the time of year and demand for rooms. The lowest rate is around $179 a night for a room and $230-$250 for suites. This compares to $150 to $250 a night for a room at The Centennial Hotel and $300 to $350 a night for a suite there, according to The Centennial Hotel’s front desk agent.
O’Donnell said she expects the hotel's downtown location to draw a lot of visitors. “I always point out – we’re 50 miles to the coast, 50 miles to the lakes, 50 miles to the mountains,” she said. “Concord is a great place that you can go, but you can also get to anywhere from here. It’s wonderful to stay and take a day trip each day.”
