Business NH Magazine Features Downtown Concord's Newest Boutique Hotel
Learn about Concord, New Hampshire's newest luxury hotel.
Capital Commons has long been both a hub for nightlife and a place to do business. Now the six-story unique mixed-use building is also a temporary home for travelers with the addition of a new tenant—The Hotel Concord, a boutique hotel.
In August 2018, The Hotel Concord opened with 21 guest rooms, all on the fourth floor. Another 17 rooms opened on the sixth floor in January 2019 for a total of 38 guest rooms.
The idea for the hotel came from Michael J. Simchik, Managing Partner of NH-based 100 Market Group, the building’s owner and developer. That vision is now being carried forward by David V. Shamoian of Bravo Zulu Hospitality Group, which runs the hotel.
The 104,000-square-foot building first opened in 2008. It is located within a bird's eye view of the NH State House and has a popular 500-plus vehicle municipal parking garage on site.
The Lobby and The Lobbyist, a breakfast room and a small bar, are on the ground floor. General Manager, Sue O’Donnell, said once customers pull up, the concierge will take their luggage and direct them around to the parking garage. O’Donnell has been in the hotel industry in Concord for 17 years.
The hotel was designed to encourage people to relax with limited distraction. An executive lounge on the fourth floor has no televisions so “people can relax and check their email and read quietly.” The Hotel Concord also has The Gym, a fitness center, and The Hotel Concord Event Center, a meeting/event space equipped with audio-visual technology.
O’Donnell hosted weekly tours leading up to the opening of the hotel. She says this type of mixed-use development was previously unavailable in the area, so many people are excited. “All of the tenants have been on a tour now and really appreciate the options,” O’Donnell said. Other businesses in the building include Eastern Bank, Edward Jones, Harvest Capital Management, McLane Middleton, New Hampshire Association of REALTORS, O Steaks & Seafood, Red River Theatres and Tufts Health Freedom Plan.
The Hotel Concord is partnering with local business to add perks for customers. O Steaks & Seafood will run The Lobbyist for the hotel, and O’Donnell says she has partnered with the YMCA so guests can take a yoga class or go for a swim if they so choose. Guests who want to see a movie don't have to leave the building as Red River Theatres is there. “I’m talking to Angie Lane, Executive Director of the Theatre, about doing a pajama party,” O’Donnell said. “Every guest who stays with us gets a coupon for free popcorn." She says this also encourages guests to walk around the building and see what else is going on.
The hotel features private vestibules that can be used to create a series of private connected rooms. "That will be great for a wedding party that needs a few rooms," she said.
O’Donnell says the hotel will be ready when the presidential candidates come. “When the Clintons came to the city they took a whole floor of a hotel,” she says. “You need rooms for Secret Service and staff. Our design will offer many great combinations.”
If you are visiting Concord, NH for business or leisure travel, The Hotel Concord provides the type of luxury accommodations in a boutique hotel atmosphere even a well-traveled Presidential candidate would love.
